Music and Image of the Week

Each Monday during our class assembly we will look at a different piece of Music and Image- these images and links to the pieces of music are all on this page for you to look at and share with people at home.

It’d also be great if you could share your thoughts on the piece of music and image- see the first ‘post’ below for some questions to think about and how to leave your thoughts, comments and opinions.

Remember, House Points and/or Merits will be awarded to everyone who comments, and we will look at last week’s image and music at the start of every class assembly.

After the first few weeks of term, you will be able to select a piece of music and image for us to look at each week!

So long, (not quite farewell!)- part 1- practical stuff!

Hi 5H,

So, our time together has come to an end :-(  It’s been a great year, and I’m going to post a separate post looking back over the past year etc shortly, but wanted to get the ‘practical’ things ‘out of the way’ first!

This Website

WOW- did you know that this year, this website has been viewed 36,668 times and you have all left 3,3,75 comments!

I’m SO pleased that you have all got involved in the site, and I do hope you have found it useful, fun and generally a good thing to have.

I am VERY keen not to ‘loose’ you, or push you out from the site- so I want to say straight way that you are more than welcome (infact, I want to encourage you to) visit the website over the summer and next year, and to get involved, comment and generally be ace like you are this year!  So please don’t feel like you can’t do anything because you are no longer in my class.

The site will obviously change over the summer- none of your work, posts or anything from this year will vanish though- it’ll just get moved into a separate part of the site, which you will be able to access through the menu’s and/or by searching.

Your accounts will stay active- and if you want to, you can still write posts, share work etc…   Your log-ins for Sumdog, aviary etc will also still work.  And I will still give you any HP’s or Merits I offer!

But whether you decide to still add work, posts etc- still do drop by and comment- 4H will love to see you around!   Music/Art of the week will be starting back up again in September, and it’ll be especially great to have your super responses- you have got so good at responding to music/art that I would love for you to show 4H the ropes!  If you want to choose 4H’s first ever music/art of the week, let me know- It’d be great for us to have the first one (or first few) ‘chosen’ by 5H!  It’d also be great to get year 6′s comments (that’s you lot!) on my new year 4′s work throughout the year!

I’d also like you to be around on the website over the summer- but more on that below…

Summer challenges

I’m posting a challenge a week on the website over the summer break- this is partly to get some of 4H used to using the website etc- and, of course, to give people something to do if they get bored (I remember the summer holiday’s when I was your age well- great for the first few weeks, boring after!)

I’d love for you to take part in some/all of them too if you want!  So check out the website and have a go- the first one will appear this Saturday.

I’m also going to ask 4H to ask any questions/tell me what they are worried about etc about next year on a linoit and in the comments to a post- and it’d be great if you would be willing to keep an eye on these and add your thoughts to anything 4H ask/say- afterall, you all know me and have had me for a year (now just remember to tell them I’m really mean, never give out any merits or HP… ;-) ;-) ;-) ) - so you are in a good position to answer anything!  You’ll see a post to 4H about this at the start of next week, and if you reply to anything they say, I’ll give you 4HP for each reply, and a few merits if you reply to a few! (so you can start of the year with merits/HP’s already!)

Messages for 4H

Some of you asked if you could leave messages for 4H- I’d love you to, and did put up a linoit for it a few weeks ago-

the link to it is here-  so feel free to add messages for 4H!

Clubs next year

Well, OK, I say I’m saying goodbye to you, but I have a feeling I’ll still see lots of most of you in the different clubs etc- just so you know, next year I’m planning on…

  • Keep Twist N’ Turn going- T+T (as the staff are starting to call them!) already know about this- this will be on Monday and Friday lunchtimes.
  • Running writing club again (there is NO WAY I wouldn’t after the amazing writing you did last year!)- which will be open to year 5 and 6 again (with a few year 4′s invited)- and I know lots of you want to get involved this year-we’ll have out first meeting in the middle of September- but it’s never too early to get thinking about plot ideas etc (but remember, the rules say you can’t start to write it till November!)
  • Running a drama club-something I never got round to this year- but this will be after Christmas.
  • ICT club will run again at some point too- and will be open to year 5+6
Plus, I’m sure I’ll end up deciding to do more, most of which you’ll be able to join.
So that’s most of the practical stuff out of the way- of course, any questions or if I have missed anything, just leave a comment!
Mr H :-)

Music and Art of the Week- Ellis’s choice (+ a reminder!)

It’s getting towards the start of term (hasn’t the Easter break gone so quickly!), so it’s time to re-start out Music and Art of the week :-)

On the first Tuesday back, we will be discussing KIA’s music and art of the week- which you can find HERE- so please make sure you have a look at it before Tuesday :-)

Ellis has chosen our first Music/Art of the week for the new term- as always, we’d love to hear your comments, and for every comment you make you’ll gain 5HP :-) We’ll also award TC’s to some people each week too :-)

So here we go with Ellis’s super choices :-)

Music

Ellis has chosen a great song called ‘Cooler than Me’ by Mike Pointer- have a listen below:-

What do you think of the song? Do you like it? Why/Why not?

Here are some questions to get you thinking:-

How does the song make you feel?

  • Who does this song remind you of?
  • When was it released?
  • When it was released what place in the top 40 was it?
  • Who do you think is cooler than you?
  • How would you describe the song?
  • Where do you think the song is set (street, school, ect.)
  • How old is the person who sung it?

Art

Ellis has chosen a very intriguing piece of art – here it is, remember to  click on it to make it bigger.

What do you first see when you look at the painting?   If you look again, can you see anything else or anything different?

Here are some questions to get you thinking about the painting:-

  • How many boats are there?
  • How do you think the artists got this idea?
  • What type of boat is that?
  • When was it made?
  • What does this remind you of ?
  • Do you like it?
  • Can you find any paintings that are similar?

Don’t forget to comment to let Ellis and everyone else know what you think!

Music/Art of the Week- Spring 5- A Disney Theme (Betsie’s choice)

This week, Betsie has chosen our Music/Art and it’s taken a very Disney theme :-D

Rememebr to comment to let Betsie (and me!) know what you think- everyone who comments will get a TC and I’ll choose the 2 most thoughtful comments to gain a merit each too :-)

Happy Disney’ing :-)

Music.

Betsie has chosen 2 Disney songs this week- have a listen below…

What do you think?  Which song is your favourite? Why?

Here are some questions to think about…

  • I’ve put in 2 versions of ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ – what are the differences between the versions?  Which one do you prefer and why?
  • How do the songs make you feel? Why?  Do they both make you feel the same way?
  • Is the melody or words the most important thing in these songs?
  • Can you find out who wrote (composed) these songs?
  • What films were these songs in?
  • Why do you think Disney songs are often so popular?

Listening to Betsie’s choice and also listening to a few of you at school, got me thinking about Disney songs generally- there are so many, many of which people love- so I thought it’d be interesting to see what everyone’s favourite Disney song is (and why?)?  Why not comment to let us know, and your choice will be added to the widget below.

I’ve started it of by putting a song in that always makes me think of Dinseyland Paris- I’m not sure if they still use it, but they used to play it along the parades (but we’re talking years and years ago- I used to go to Dinseyland Pairs a lot when I was young- I first went in the year it opened!) – the song always makes me smile and feel happy!

So leave a comment with your favourite Disney song (s) and it’ll appear below…  [I've also asked some other teachers to share their favourites with us too!]

Our favourite Disney songs…

Art

Betsie’s art is also Disney themed- here it is…

The Voicethread can be found here – or you can comment in the comments as usual!

What do you think of the art?  Here are some questions to get you thinking…

  • Who is the picture of?
  • Can anyone find out the name given to the picture?
  • What do you think the picture was made ‘for’?
  • Who drew the picture?
  • How does the picture make you feel? Does it bring anything into your mind?
  • Is this art?
  • Do you notice anything special/different about this picture? / What else do you notice.

I can’t wait to see what you all think of Betsie’s choices!
