The Return of Music + Art of the Week- WEEK 1

After a small break, Music + Art of the week is back!

We’d love to hear your views and thoughts about the piece(s) of music and art that have been chosen below.

4H- remember we will be discussing our Music + Art in our class assemblies on Friday- and you will earn lots of comment king stickers + TC’s for commenting before hand.  Remember to get people at home involved too.   We will be choosing one of you each week to choose our next music + art!

So this week’s music and art reflects our new theme- ‘Amazing Africa’

I have chosen 2 pieces of art this week- both by African Artisits.

This piece  is over 200 years old…

This one is from a different country in Africa…

What do you think about these images?  Let everyone know in the comments!

Here are some questions to get you thinking…

  • Which piece of art do you like the best?  Why?
  • How do you think each piece of art was made?  How can you tell?
  • Is there anything that is the same about the two pieces of art?
  • What do you feel when you look at each of the images?
  • What can you see in each image? Look closely (you can click on them to make them bigger)- can you see anything that you think others might not have spotted?
  • Do you think the pieces of art are based on what the artists have seen, or are just from their imagination?
  • Can you name any of the animals in either piece of art?

Can you find any other examples of African art that you like?

This week, I have chosen 4 different pieces of music from the same group-  Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Have a listen below  (the music won’t play on a ipad/iphone etc!)

What do you think?  Let us know in the comments!

Here are a few questions for you to think about…

  • Which piece of music do you like the best?  Why?
  • How is each piece of music similar/different?
  • What do you like about this music?  Is there anything you don’t like?
  • How is it the same/different from the music you normally listen too?
  • What do the pieces of music make you think of when you listen to them?
  • What do you think each piece of music is about?
  • Can you find any other music by this group which you like

I can’t wait to hear what you think about this week’s choices and to join in the discussions in the comments!
